Two Hudson County high school students have officially punched their tickets to the 2015 Intel International Science and Engineering Fair in Pittsburgh this May.

McNair High School senior Eswar Anandapadmanaban and High Tech High School junior Kapil Kanakaraj will be representing Hudson County in the largest pre-college scientific research event in the world after being named winners of The Jersey Journal’s 57th annual Hudson County Science Fair earlier today.

“It would be nice to be able to represent the school, the city, and the county in the science fair if I get a chance to,” Anandapadmanaban said today before learning that he won. “I have heard that the Intel fair is really cool and that there is a lot of amazing events so I’d love to be able to go.”

Anandapadmanaban and Kanakaraj are two of the 14 gold medalists that reconvened at Liberty Science Center today to give a 15-minute presentation of their project to a panel of three judges in what’s called “super-judging.”

Anandapadmanaban won the gold medal in electrical and mechanical engineering category at the Hudson County Science Fair on Monday for his project titled “ThereNIM: A Touchless Respiratory Monitor”.
